FAQ's ABOUT MORNINGTON VENEERS

When do veneers go wrong?

Veneers can go wrong due to poor placement, chipping, cracking, or staining. They can also cause gum irritation or sensitivity.

At Balnarring Dental Centre, we place veneers under Rubber Dam to prevent moisture contamination during glueing/bonding of veneers.

We also involve you in the process of making the veneers as ensure your presence at the Lab to personalise the shape and colour of your veneers to exactly what you want.

Why are veneers bad?

While veneers can significantly improve the appearance of your teeth. Veneers can be bad because they are irreversible, expensive, and can cause sensitivity. They can also chip or crack and irritate gums.

Will Veneers fix crooked teeth?

Yes, veneers can fix minor crooked teeth. However, for severe misalignment, braces or Invisalign might be more suitable.

Can Veneers be removed?

Yes, veneers can be removed by our dentists at Balnarring dental. However, it's important to note that removing veneers can damage the underlying tooth enamel, so it's not a decision to be taken lightly. At Balnarring Dental Centre we remove veneers under rubber dam to prevent any porcelain or glue material being ingested. Further working in a dry environment allows our dentists at Balnarring Dental Centre to be able differentiate between veneer material and tooth.

Are Veneers permanent?

No, veneers are not permanent. They typically last 10-15 years, but can last longer with proper care.

Can Veneers be whitened?

No, veneers cannot be whitened. They are made from materials that do not respond to whitening treatments.

Why do I need Veneers?

  • Uneven lengths-worn or short teeth

  • Irregular tooth shapes

  • Gaps between teeth

  • Minimal crowding

  • Discolouration

  • chips/cracks in teeth

How Veneers work?

Mornington veneers are thin shells, typically made of porcelain or plastic (composite), that are custom-designed to cover the front surface of teeth. They are used to improve the appearance of teeth by addressing issues such as discoloration, staining, chips, cracks, or minor misalignments. Veneers can create a more aesthetically pleasing smile by altering the color, shape, size, or length of the teeth.

There are two main materials that dental veneers are made out of Porcelain or Composite.

What are Porcelain Veneers?

  • Made of a durable and stain-resistant material (porcelain).

  • Can completely customise colour, shape, length and size

  • Requires the removal of a small amount of enamel from the tooth's surface to accommodate the thickness of the veneer.

  • Typically more resistant to stains compared to composite veneers.

  • Custom-made in a dental laboratory

  • Lasts many years longer than composite/plastic veneers

What are Composite Resin Veneers

  • Made of a tooth-colored resin material.

  • Applied directly to the tooth surface without the need for extensive enamel removal.

  • Can be created in a single dental visit as they are often shaped and bonded directly onto the teeth by the dentist.

  • Generally less expensive than porcelain veneers.

  • May not be as resistant to staining as porcelain veneers.

  • Will not last as long as porcelain veneers

  • Not as strong as porcelain veneers

  • Tends to chip/break more often than porcelain veneers

  • Needs to be maintained more often than porcelain veneers

  • Dentists at Balnarring dental on the Mornington Peninsula work alongside a reputable lab in custom making each veneer, we even send patients to the lab to pick their own lengths, shapes and shades

  • We only finalise your Mornington Veneers treatment if you are 100% happy to do so, ensuring you get the smile of your dreams

  • Dentists at Balnarring Dental on the Mornington Peninsula seal the tooth after we prepare it, minimizing risk of sensitivity

  • Our Speciality Mornington Veneers dentists work conservatively, saving as much of your natural tooth as possible. This makes sure your teeth are as strong as possible and the change of adverse risks like root canal treatment is minimized

  • Our dentists have done hours and hours of further study in the art of veneers

  • Our dentists at Balnarring Dental  work with the best materials out there (only the gold standard for our patients)

What are some of the risks of the procedure?

  • Veneer damage: If there is an underlying clenching and grinding habit, then there is a risk of chipping/breaking of veneers. Furthermore, biting hard foods/objects can cause damage to the veneer

  • Temporaries: during the construction of the porcelain veneers, there will be temporary veneers placed onto your teeth. These temporaries can stain, chip and need replacement

  • Irreversible Procedure: The process of placing veneers often involves the removal of a small amount of enamel from the tooth's surface to accommodate the thickness of the veneer. This enamel removal is irreversible, and it means that the affected teeth will always require some form of restoration.

  • Sensitivity: Some patients can experience some sensitivity after the preparation of the veneers, this is usually transient in nature.

  • Colour stability of neighbouring teeth: although the teeth with veneers tend to stay quite stable in color, the neighboring teeth (that do not have veneers) can stain and change as you get older. Thus some consideration into matching colors/shape/length will be needed in the future.

Replacement: Unfortunately, veneers have a lifespan and will need to be replaced after a number of years. How often you will need to replace them depends on the material you choose, your oral hygiene practices and personal habits.
