Our Approach to Children’s Dentistry
Children's Orthodontics
It is important to bring in children to start their regular dental exams from the age of 2. This lets them to get comfortable with the dental setting and allows us to monitor your child's oral health early on.
If your child has issues like a crooked bite or misaligned teeth, we can start orthodontic treatment as early as 8 years old.
Early treatment can address problems while your child is still growing and can prevent more extensive treatment later on.
Book an appointment today so you can get a head start on your kids orthodontic needs!
We recommend a first visit by age one or when the first tooth erupts. Early visits help your child get comfortable and allow us to monitor healthy developmentYour child should have their first dental visit by their first birthday or within six months of their first tooth appearing. Early visits help your child become comfortable with the dentist and allow for early detection of any issues..
Most children should visit the dentist every six months for a check-up and cleaning. Children who are more prone to cavities may be advised to visit every three months.
If your child is eligible*, we can bulk bill eligible services under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule.
To achieve optimal results with clear aligners, it's typically recommended to wear them for 22 hours per day. This means wearing the aligners for the majority of the day and only removing them for eating, drinking (except for water), brushing, and flossing. Consistent wear of the aligners ensures that they exert continuous and controlled pressure on the teeth, facilitating the desired tooth movements and alignment.
At Balnarring Dental Centre we specialise in helping anxious children feel safe and relaxed. Our calm, supportive approach, gentle techniques, and friendly team make dental visits a positive experience. If needed, we can discuss options to make treatment even easier.

Dental sealants are protective coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of molars to prevent decay. They are quick to apply, do not require anaesthetic, and can significantly reduce the risk of cavities
Begin cleaning your baby’s gums with a soft cloth before teeth emerge. Once teeth appear, use a small, soft toothbrush with water. For children aged 18 months to six years, use a pea-sized amount of age-appropriate toothpaste. Parents should brush their child’s teeth until at least age eight, as young children lack the dexterity for effective cleaning
Baby teeth are essential for chewing, speaking, and holding space for adult teeth. Healthy baby teeth help ensure proper development and alignment of permanent teeth. Untreated decay in baby teeth can lead to pain, infection, and problems with the adult teeth
